Hardware terminology • ACP • A PCB used for data transfer control between disk drives and cache memory; same as DKA • CHIP • A PCB used for data transfer control between the host and cache memory; same as CHA • DKC • Disk Controller Unit • DKU • Disk Cabinet Unit • HDD • Hard Disk Drive • HDU • Hard Disk Unit—A canister that holds the HDDs • SVP • Service Processor • Cache memory • Very high speed memory that is used to speed I/O transaction time. Cache memory • Cache memory is used temporarily to store data from the host until it is written to disk and to stage data requested by the host from the disk • All cache is backed up by a fully redundant 48‑hour battery • XP disk arrays have global ECC mirrored cache • Cache usage is governed by user-established, performance based policies, not physical partitions. • 4 GB to 128 GB of cache can be installed in Cache Platform pairs HP Restricted
