Eph 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

  7. neglect • abusive words • over-indulgent • unrealistic achievement goals • discouragement (lack of understanding, lack of reward) • Not sacrificing for them (viewing them as an intrusion in your life) • favoritism • not allowing for mistakes • over protection (don't trust them) • physical abuse

Fundamental Principles • Children need parenting because they are born sinners • Parenting is about attitude, not behavior. • There is no inherent authority in becoming a parent biologically, but rather in the role of parent • Takes two to succeed at parenting • Forgiveness is the key ingredient

  9. God’s Key for Parenting Forgiveness Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Therefore be imitators of God.” Proverbs 19:11 A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger,And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

How to teach Children • Submit to one another It takes two to be successful in parenting • Be like me • Joy • Thanksgiving • Submissive Spirit • Servant Leadership Husband – Wife relationship is where you practice and demonstrate the attitudes you expect from your child. ⇒ Be imitators of God

  12. Being Continually Filled with the Spirit is the only hope of success in relationships

  13. Being Continually Filled with the Spirit is the only hope of success in parenting
