  3. LEVEL #1:WE ARE FORMED FOR MEMBERSHIP WHY DO YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF A FAMILY?

  4. A. WE CHOOSE TO BELONG TO A CHURCH FAMILY “You are members of God’s very own family and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.” Ephesians 2:19 The Christian life is not just a matter of believing it is a matter of belonging. The church is where we live out what it means to be a Christian.

  5. “In Christ we who are many form one Body, and each members belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:5 The church is the Bride of Christ, and His love for the church means we have to have the same respect that he shows for us.

  6. B. WE CHOOSE TO PROCLAIM TO THE WORLD OUR DEATH TO SELF AND OUR COMMITMENT TO A NEW LIFE “This is what we proclaim in word and action when we are baptized. Each of us is now a part of His resurrection Body.” II Corinthians12:13 This is a picture of proclaiming that we belong to the family of God. Romans 6:3 As a Christian we are saying “I am not ashamed of the gospel.”

  7. LEVEL #2:WE ARE FORMED FOR FRIENDSHIP “All the believers met together constantly and shared everything with each other.” Acts 2:44

  8. A. WE HAVE TO LEARN TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCES “Iron sharpens iron” We learn from each others strengths and weaknesses. We don’t have enough time to learn everything on our own so God created your friends to help. We are all ignorant about something.

  9. B. WE HAVE TO LEARN TO SHARE OUR HOMES “Open up your homes to each other.” Our first 300 years of Christianity there were no church buildings. Small groups is a biblical principle.

  10. C. WE HAVE TO LEARN TO SHARE OUR PROBLEMS “Share each other’s troubles and problems. Share one another’s burdens.” When you share a joy, or a victory it is doubled, when you share a problem is cut in half. “Weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice.” We learn to identify with others who have similar situations.

  11. “Let us not give up the habit of meeting together. Instead let us encourage one another.” Hebrews 10:25 The primary purpose of a group is to encourage one another. When we read “not to give up the habit” we are being told just how important our fellowship is together.

  12. LEVEL #3:WE ARE FORMED FOR PARTNERSHIP We have a contribution to make; that the family of God needs us.

  13. A. WE SERVE BY SHARING THE WORKLOAD 58 references in the New Testament referring to serving one another. “We are partners working together for God.” I Corinthians 3:9 “We are partners spreading the good news of Christ everywhere.” “Fellowship” - Partnership

  14. B. WE SERVE BY FINDING OUR GIFTEDNESS IN THE CHURCH FAMILY “The whole body is fitted together perfectly.” This is God’s job; … As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole Body is healthy and growing and full of love.” Ephesians 4:16 “Every person I bathe, every person I bandage, I imagine seeing the face of Jesus and I do it for Him.” Mother Teresa Matthew 25:40

  15. LEVEL #4:WE ARE FORMED FOR KINSHIP Kinship means your closes relationships

  16. A. WE ARE TO LOVE OTHER BELIEVERS LIKE FAMILY This is the deepest level of fellowship. “This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves” I John 3:16 MB Over 10 million Christians die every year, mostly in communist or Muslim countries for believing in Jesus.

  17. B. WE ARE TO LOVE EACH OTHER FROM THE HEART We protect each other from criticism. We stand with each other as we are going through a crisis. We forgive each other. We overlook each other’s faults. We let go of pet peeves and annoyances. When life is over God is not going to measure our life by our accomplishments, but by our relationships.

  18. “Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples-when they see the love you have for each other.” John 13:34,35 “So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the Devil. Anyone who does not obey God’s commands and does not love other Christians does not belong to God.” I John 3:10 NLT “The way we know we’ve been transferred from death to life is that we love our brothers and sisters. Anyone who doesn’t love is as good as dead.” I John 3:14 NLT

GALLUP SURVEY 8 out of 10 (77%) people who were involved in a faith community “strongly agreed” or “agreed” with the statement, “I am completely satisfied with my life.” Only 6 out of 10 (62%) of those surveyed who claimed to be “actively religious,” but were not involved in a meaningful faith community, claimed to be satisfied with their lives.

  21. “O Lord, remember not only the men and woman of good will, but also those of ill will. But do not remember all of the suffering they have inflicted upon us: Instead remember the fruits we have borne because of this suffering, our fellowship, our loyalty to one another, our humility, our courage, our generosity, the greatness of heart that has grown from this trouble.
