Individual ESL students • view PETW 1, 2, 3 videos online, or do PETW 1, English For All or Practice English and Reading in www.usalearns.org/class • Send written summaries to teacher in an attachment, according to MLA formatting. • Content-specific online mini-courses (cnaenglish.org, projectcare.worlded.org, keytrain.com, English writing for business, etc.) customized to students’ interests & needs

Online/digital resource teacher • OTAC 2010 -11 - Moodle • TIMAC 2011-12 – Mentored 4 ESL teachers as they implemented the EASY ESL and EASY AT WORK online programs in their classrooms • Mentoring ESL teachers to integrate tech, create and maintain teacher webpages, repository of online assignments

II. CACE Flex programs • Flex 1- Beg. High to Intermediate • Flex 2- High Int. to Advanced C. Meet as a class in person once a week for 2 hours D. Complete 1 unit of on-line course per week for 10 hrs lab credit • Flex 1 -www.usalearns.org – teacher guided; Beg. High to intermediate level; wrap-around with http://adultedcourses.org. • Flex 2- http://adultedcourses.org- teacher guided; High Int. to advanced level
III. Moodle course • Advanced level -Created by Francisca Wentworth through OTAN • 19 total units • Weekly units comprised of: vocabulary; reading and comprehension questions; dictation practice; grammar (appropriate for level); writing; Forum entries • In class meeting-focus on student questions and issues and speaking practice w/vocabulary. • Moodle – includes course and student management platform
IV. Problem Areas A. Need to set students’ expectations • Minimum lab hours needed for Certificate of Completion • Teacher responds only during office hours-not on call 24/7. • Solution: revised green sheet and registration sheet
IV. Problem Areas B. Instructor not familiar enough w/Moodle prior to beginning of class-editing course, grades, adding more materials as needed or requested by students. Solution: OTAC course
IV. Problem Areas C. Students dropping Flex On-line class once enrolled in daily “regular” ESL class. Solution: In discussions w/Director and Flex Curriculum specialist to revise student expectations.
V. Suggestions for Future On-line Instructors A. Why OTAC? • Course management system-track students’ progress; contact students; grade essays easily; easily see problem areas for entire class; create your own course vs “buy” course.
