  1. Pregame Warm-Ups • Recommended procedure: • Starting 60 minutes prior to the game, there should be a 10-yard no-player zone between the 45-yard lines.

  2. Rule 1 - equipment • 1-4-4-a: Knee pads and pants • Regulation knee pads must still be worn, but pants/knee pads are no longer required to cover the knees • 1-4-4-h: Socks • Socks must still be of the same color and design, but there is no longer any reference to the length of socks – players may wear socks of different lengths • 1-4-5-i: Eye Shade • If eye shade is worn it must be solid black with no words, numbers, logos or other symbols

  3. 3-3-5-a: Injured Players • Three changes to dealing with injured players: • An injury TO results in the injured player staying out one down – no exceptions. Not possible to “buy him in” with a TO or after a period ends. • Player may not return until approved by professional medical personnel designated by his institution. • (exact process in discussion with IAFL) • Officials and coaches to give special attention to players exhibiting signs of a concussion.

  4. 6-1-9: Wedge Formation on Free Kicks • a. A wedge is defined as two or more players aligned shoulder to shoulder within two yards of each other. • b. Free-kick down only: After the ball has been kicked, it is illegal for three or more members of the receiving team to form a wedge for the purpose of blocking for the ball carrier. This is a live-ball foul, whether or not there is contact between opponents. • c. Formation of the wedge is not illegal when the kick is from an obvious onside kick formation. • PENALTY – Noncontact foul treated as occuring during the kick. 15 yards, spot of the foul; or 15 yards, spot where the subsequent dead ball belongs to Team B if this is behind the spot of the foul. If the subsequent dead ball belongs to Team A: 15 yards, previous spot with the down repeated. [S27]

  5. Targeting and Helmet Contact • Current 9-1-3 “Initiating Contact/Targeting an Opponent” split into two separate rules, 9-1-3 and 9-1-4. • 9-1-3: No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul. • 9-1-4: No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul.

  6. Interference/Game Admin Interference • If coaches, substitutes or other team personnel are in your way and you need to move to avoid them: • And they are in the 6 ft restricted area, and there is: • No contact: Sideline Interference (5/5/15) • Contact: Illegal Interference, dead ball, 15 yards. • And they are on the field, contact or no contact: Illegal Interference, dead ball, 15 yards.
