Technology Lightweight gear: Having lightweight gear during outdoor ed trips helps as we often have a limited amount of room and space to pack all the supplies needed to enjoy the trip. We also sometimes have to carry our gear far distances, so having lightweight gear helps with a more enjoyable trip. Lightweight and quickly drying clothes: Having lightweight clothes also helps with carrying our gear long distances and have a limited space for everything we need to bring. Having quickly drying clothes helps when participating in activites such a canoeing, and rafting as if we fall in or get wet in any way, we do not stay wet for very long which makes the trip much more enjoyable. Tracking/mapping devices: Having these devices helps in order to know exactly where we are going. Whilst rafting and sea kayaking we used maps to allow us to know where to go and how far to go each day. It’s a lot more convenient and gives you more sercurity whilst your trip.
commercialisation Provided equipment: Having the snorkels provided for us made it easier to just turn up to our session of snorkelling at Cape Patterson. Having instructors there helped with confidence and allowed us to know what we needed to do to stay completely safe during the session of snorkelling. It made it a more positive experience and allowed us to enjoy the experience more knowing we knew what to and what not to do whilst snorkelling. Learning about the environment has an impact as we learn not to stand on the coral or touch the fish so we can have as little impact as possible. Information Centres: Information centres such as the Bunarung conservation centre allows us all to gain knowledge and a positive perspective towards the natural environment. It allows us to know what we can do not conserve and protect the environment. It shows us the best parts of the natural environment to visit and how to have minimal impact whilst visiting these areas. It encourages people to learn why and how to they can protect the environment which would mean it has a positive impact on the environment as its allowing people to gain knowledge on the natural environment. Guided walks: Having walks guided by someone helps us being informed about the flora and fauna around us. It allows us to gain more knowledge and be more aware of our surroundings. Having someone guide us through walks and who informs of about the natural environment around us allows us to see why we must protect it, we learn about different plants we could eat and what we should stay away from. Its very beneficial for when we want to go on walks on our own. It has little negative impact on the environment as its helping us know where we must walk and see what we can do to have minimal impact whilst going for walks.
Social responses The real risk of someone rock climbing is that they are not strong enough to pull themselves up which will allow them to incomplete the activity. The perceived risk is that they slip on a rock and the rope breaks, they fall and die. The real risk whilst someone is bungee jumping is that they don’t jump far enough or there head goes under water once reaching the ground. The perceived risk is that the bungee breaks and they fall and die. The real risk of someone caving that they get lost or feel costraphobic. The perceived risk is that they lose oxygen and die.
Social responses If an accident happens in a risky activity such as rock climbing and someone slips and hits their head, they may become much more scared and stressed which would make the situation a lot worse than if they stayed calm and listen to instructions. If someone is base jumping and an accident happens such as the rope loosens someone may become more stressed out and emotional. If an accident happens whilst someone is rafting and they fall out, they may become frightened and stress out which can make the situation worse and harder for them to get back in the raft. If an accident whilst someone hiking mountains which enables them to get lost they may become unconfident and emotional which allows them to not concentrate on how to find the right way.
