The Puritans: Early Migration and Beliefs in Colonial America

The Puritans were Protestant reformers who sought to purify the Church of England, leading to their migration to America. The first group arrived in 1620, followed by thousands more over the next two decades. They valued personal connections to God and self-reliance, adhering to simplicity in worship. Facing persecution in England, they established a society based on industriousness and spiritual discipline. Harvard University, founded to train ministers, exemplified their commitment to education for understanding the Bible in a rapidly growing colony.
