  2. Who were the Puritans? • They were a group of protestants they wanted to go back to original they believed in progress purity of the Church this was the religion of the middle class

  3. Religion features • They belived in 1. free will everybody cuold choose his way of living but then he had to pay the consequences 2.progess “The Parable of Talents” 3. strict morality

  4. The parable of Talents and progess • God give us some skills and we have to use it in our life in order progress in society. • They can choose how to progress middle class belief • Free will they would pay the consequences

  5. They followed the bible as a rule they believed in God's mercy They needed the interaction of a priest to communicate to God Puritans vs Catholics • Free will more responsabilty • Direct communication to God

Key dates • 1625 king raised taxation without parlamentary constent • 1640 the Commons organized by the Puritans refuse the King's request • 1642 Civil War broke out • 1649 Charles I execution and istitution of the Commonwealth the leader of puritans became Lord protector started a period of austerity and censure • 1658 Commonwealth collapsed

  7. Puritans and the U.S.A • After restoration • On September 16, 1620, the Pilgrims left the English port of Plymouth and landed in the America. • Consumist society strong belief in progress free will • American revolution • “No taxation without representation”
