From Here to $$$ • Presentation & Judging – Wed., May 4. • Morning – Judges review written entries. • Early Afternoon – Finalists present twice. • Late Afternoon – Networking and Awards Reception. • Prizes: • 1 First Place Prize of $3,000. • 1 Second Place Prize of $2,000. • 3 Third Place Prizes of $1,000.

  6. The Presentations • 2 presentations to panels of judges. • 8-10 judges per panel. • Timing: • 5 minute presentation by you. • 5 minutes of Q&A. • Time limits are “hard stops”. • No PowerPoint presentations – just you and your idea! • Dress is business attire.

  7. Presentation Thoughts • Organization and topics are up to you. • Objective = Get someone else excited about your idea. • Sell! • Tips: • Be organized. Logical. • Make sure topics flow. • Large teams – plan speaking roles, plan handoffs. • Practice. Practice. Practice. • Anticipate issues: • Size of market. • Feasibility of idea.

  8. Presentation Content • Consider: • Introduce yourself and idea title. • Problem / opportunity. • Your idea. • Customers. • Benefits – Customers and Society. • Competition. • Commercial potential. • Summary. Why this is a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Thank the judges.

  9. Presentation Delivery • Friendly audience. • Relax. • Talk at reasonable pace. • Talk clearly. • Look at your audience. • Be yourself.

  10. The Judges • 60-80 representatives of business and academic communities. • Includes bankers, lawyers, accountants, consultants, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, venture capitalists, professors. • Truly want to help. Interested in YOU! • Say “thank you”. • Presentations. • Reception.

  11. The Reception • Approach the judges. • Do some networking. • Ask about them. Ask about their field. • They’ll ask you about your idea. • They may offer feedback if they saw your idea. • Be yourself!

  12. Student Events • Student Presentations. • 1:35 PM to 4:10 PM. • Report to Student Registration outside Wehner room 106. • Check in 15 minutes prior to presentation. • BE ON TIME! You’re late you FORFEIT!!!! • Networking and Awards Reception. • 4:30 PM. • Cox Hall in Wehner. (Follow signs and look for Reliant Trading Center)

  13. Wrap Up • Presentation: Organized, Practiced, Relaxed. • Judging Day: BE ON TIME! • Feedback: Welcome it, learn from it. • Reception: Meet people, network. • Judges: Thank them. • You: Relax. Learn. Have fun! • Your times- Ashley
