Curriculum updates • MATH IN FOCUS/SINGAPORE MATH: • Grades 6-8 at all middle schools, in all classes • Grades k-5 in selected pilot classrooms in select schools; • 16 Elementary classrooms in the district. A pilot will run at each grade level K to 5. • Math in focus is an intensive problem solving curriculum that balances application with skills. Students use extensive critical thinking and modeling to solve problems. • Aligned well to common core state standards; thus, these teachers will be implementing ccss 100% this year

  3. High school curriculum • Common core-aligned curriculum • Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 • Intermediate Algebra & Trig/PreCalc Curriculum will remain the same as last year 2011-12

  4. Curriculum Website • We will no longer be using All of E OR the • G: Drive for our curriculum postings. • We have a new curriculum website that will house all of the district curriculum K-12 • Information on accessing the website will be provided. • For HS teachers, you can download curriculum today on your curriculum flash drive.

New information on Content SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS *8TH GRADE: 2 Linear Equations *High School CCSS: 1 linear and one quadratic *Quadratic is considered anything of degree 2, including parabolas, circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, etc. *To be tested by the Junior Year SBAC test *CCT will collaborate on how to incorporate this into curriculum. *Information from Cathy Battles at MCTM conference on 7/31/12.

  6. This year we’re offering College Algebra for College Credit at Truman, Chrisman and Van Horn! Truman: UMKC; enrolled: 26 Chrisman: UMKC; enrolled: 14 Van Horn: Truman State University; enrolled: 31 CELEBRATE!!!

  7. Information from Dr. Beth Savidge, Asst. Superintendant Information from DESE Math Director, Cindy Bryant TESTING Changes State Testing: EOC & MAP District Testing • This school year, 2012-13, all EOC and MAP tests will be written under CLEs and GLEs. • Next school year, 2013-14, all EOC and MAP tests will be written under CCSS; no GLEs and CLEs. • This school year AND next school year, test results will be sent double-coded to show results by CLE/GLE and by CCSS. • Performance Events return THIS YEAR for Algebra 1 EOC and on 8th Grade MAP • The District is still deciding if we will give Geometry and Algebra 2 Bonus tests this year • This year’s freshmen are the first to take the SBAC CCSS test in their Junior Year 2014-15. • We now use Acuity Software; no more Pearson Limelight or Inform • MAP predictive test given grades 3-8, 3 times per year • Algebra 1 Diagnostic Test given 3 times in the year. • First session of testing for Algebra 1 will be in the first 2-3 weeks of school. More info to come. • More information about Acuity training to come. • Acuity testing will be online and with clickers.

Changes at DESE • Adopting CAS • -Core Academic Standards- • Includes CCSS Math, CCSS English Language Arts, Common standards in Science and Common Standards in Social Studies. • As a part of the adoption of math CCSS under the Missouri CAS, DESE will NOT add 15% more standards. They will implement CCSS as-is. • DESE has released sample CCSS units that can be used for ideas in implementing CCSS. These units are not curriculum documents. Our HS Common Core Team will be inspecting them in the months to come.

  9. More DESE • After this school year, DESE will eliminate all non-CCSS problems from their testing banks. Those non-CCSS problems will not be used in testing after this school year. • DESE will not be involved in writing new problems for CCSS in the near future; they plan to utilize CCSS problems already in their problem banks in the years to come

Next Navigator • www.nextnavigator.com • We have begun a subscription to Next Navigator. • What’s that? • In conjunction with Bill Daggett and Successful Practice Network • Access to teaching tools, CCSS aligned assessments and gold seal lessons. • An online tool, that at this time is used by select administrators and coaches for resources.

High School Cross-District Meetings This Year • Friday, August 10, 2012 • Curriculum Kickoff • Grades 6-12 Jointly • 1:00 pm-3:00 pm • Wednesday, October 17, 2012 • Program of Studies Discussion and Course Changes. • Other Early Release Dates will be used as Building Time, agendas determined by Building Staff.

  17. Basic MSIP 5 Scoring Advanced: 5 Proficient: 4 Basic: 3 Below Basic: 1 This means we need to really focus on getting students out of the Below Basic Category!
