  2. A. President Wilson tried to bring about peace • Tried bringing both sides together for an armistice (a stop in fighting) • Kept U.S. out of war until 1918 opposing warmongers (persons stirring up war)

  3. B. The United States began preparations to enter the war • Wilson lobbied for a stronger military • Breaking off diplomatic relations with Germany (Americans killed on the Lusitania) • Outraged by Germany’s alliance with Mexico (Zimmermann telegraph) • Supported Russian revolutionaries

  4. C. Americans on the home front responded to the war effort • A bureaucracy was created that oversaw war • Movie stars help sell Liberty Bonds • Many women took jobs to replace men
