  2. Profiling laboratory capacity Lab capacity mapping is an essential basis for laboratories: • to assess their own functionality and identify their priorities and gaps • provide a baseline of laboratory status, help setting objectives and monitor progress over time • generating reliable and accurate data to support the development of strong animal disease prevention and control systems

  3. The FAO LMT

  4. The FAO LMT • Standardized questionnaire for data to be captured either by external evaluators or through self-assessment • To (self)- assess laboratory functionality in a systematic and semi-quantitative manner • To allow the generation of a laboratory profile that “maps’’ all key elements for an operational laboratory • General LMT (core) can be expanded through specific modules, such as LMT Safety module, LMT AMR module (part of ATLASS tool), LMT QA module, LMT disease specific modules (eg Avian influenza)

  5. The core LMT allows to assess 5 areas : Within these five areas, 17 categories and 108 subcategories have been selected.

  6. Scores (1 to 4) of three different assessments A, B and Current can be included simutanously in the questionnaire Scores for the 5 areas, the 17 LMT categories and an overall score will be automatically calculated and graphics generated in the ‘’Summary’’ For each of the 108 subcategories, one out of four options can be selected

  7. Results for the 17 sub categories • Scoring based on the optimal situation: 100% being the ideal laboratory. • Number in each cell = achieved percentage compared to the optimum

  8. Outcomes of the LMT used for individual lab Laboratory ‘’X‘’ gaps and strengths in June 2015 By using the LMT for lab assessment, each lab can determine its gaps and strengths and define priorities for corrective actions on gaps measured: LMT can be used as a lab management tool

  9. LMT Core results –Regional overview • 13 countries- 16 labs • Assessment missions between July 2016 and January 2017
