  4. Cannabis has an unrivaled history of continuous cultivation, which started in old China in Neolithic times 6000 years ago. It was used as important fiber plant and also as medicine in these times.. A thorough scientific evaluation of the medical use of cannabis goes back to the work of Sir William B. O’Shaughnessy in 1838–1840. Since then cannabis has been intensively investigated.
