  2. Atmosphere Reason It Survives: The largest mass of Earth holds the smallest gas particles. Important Characteristics For Life: Ave temp = 17C Oxygen!

  3. Another Ingredient for Life on Earth is Liquid Water Where did Earth’s water come from?

  4. Liquid Water Two Possible Origins: Water vapor came from Early volcanoes, then condensed. Collisions w/ icy asteroids & comets brought water.

  5. About The Ozone Layer…. Good or bad?

  6. Ozone Layer helps protect us!! Composed Of: Molecules made of 3 oxygen atoms. Effects: Absorbs UV radiation From sun so less UV reaches us.

  7. What causes Earth’s magnetic field and why is this important to life on Earth?

  8. Magnetic Field Formed By: Earth’s rotations “swirl” the iron core. This creates a magnetic field with N & S Poles. Effects: Charged particles from the sun are blown off course by the magnetic field.

  9. Temperature Main Points: Earth is not too hot or too cold b/c of the Greenhouse Effect.

  10. Greenhouse Effect: When CO2 & other gases in the atmosphere trap in solar radiation; causes global temps to rise.

  11. What is the greenhouse Effect?

  12. Main Idea 2:Matter & energy on Earth are neither created nor destroyed; they are merely transformed from one form to another.

  13. Conservation of Energy Potential Energy Describe: Energy of matter derived from its position.

  14. Conservation of Energy Kinetic Energy Describe: Energy of matter associated with motion.

  15. Rocks are constantly changing as a result of weathering forces, melting.. This is an example of Conservation of Matter. Explain: During rock cycle, matter making up each rock is transformed into a differ chemical structure, and so on.. No NEW Matter, none LOST.

  16. Conservation of Matter: Not created, not destroyed. Just changes from one form to another.
