  3. Accomplishments • Founder of the Sierra Club- National Park activist group • Considered “Father of National Park System” in America • Muir’s books gave notice toward conservation movement and park systems • Named “Greatest Californian” in 1976, 62 years after death

  4. Knowledge and Insight • Muir recognized the need for future generations to learn about the natural environment • Believed national parks helped to see and understand nature first hand
