  1. 55th IETFNetwork Management for GSMP Interface draft-cha-gsmp-management-01.txt YoungWook Cha Andong National University IETF 55(November 2002, Atlanta)

  2. Status of this Document • draft-cha-gsmp-management-00.txt • 54th IETF Meeting • Network management model in GSMP interface • This draft was accepted as good idea, and the WG chair asked us to rework this document for WG charter extension. • draft-cha-gsmp-management-01.txt • This draft is prepared to better explain • the motivation of network management services, and • the location of network management function in the GSMP interface.

  3. Open Issue-I RFC 3295 <Definitions of Managed Objects for the GSMP> It is just a protocol MIB. It can’t support traditional network management services such as FCAPS. Before this draft, there was no considerations for supporting NM services in GSMP interface.

  4. Open Issue-II Where is network management function for supporting NM services in the GSMP interface ? Controller or Switch ?

  5. Management of switch resources Dynamic connection: Controller Provisioned connection: Switch Growth of switch complexity. • Controller manages provisioned and dynamic connections. • Simple switch implementation • Mapping procedures are required. Controller Coordinator CR-LDP, RSVP-TE Controller Coordinator GSMP - Master SNMP Agent CR-LDP, RSVP-TE Label Switch GSMP – Slave GSMP - Master SNMP Agent System Management Label Switch NMS NMS GSMP – Slave System Management NM Models in GSMP Interface

  8. Mapping Scenarios • GSMP service MIB includes managed objects, which are well matched with the information elements of GSMP messages. • draft-cha-gsmp-service-mib-00.txt

  9. Unified Control Path using GSMP Web Browser NMS Sig. RSVP-TE CR-LDP SNMP HTTP Commands Controller … Sig. Protocol Web-Server CLI Agent GSMP - Master Unified Control Path Switch GSMP - Slave System Management

  10. Next Steps Is this document useful ? If yes, it should become a WG item, and an input for WG charter extension.
