  3. Being a muckraker, step 1 • Read the “No Survivors Found After West Virginia Mine Disaster” article (read-aloud) • In your comp book, summarize the key points of the article in 3-5 bullet points

Being a muckraker, step 2 • You will receive either article 2 or article 3 to read on your own. • Write the title of the article you read and summarize the key points the article is making in 3-5 bullet points. • Focus on what would make you angry if you were a family member of one of the killed miners

Your job is to make a statement about worker safety based on the Massey Mining articles. • Create a detailed, 1-panel political cartoon that reflects the key ideas from the two articles you read. Be sure to include labels, captions, and a title. It should be clear when viewing your finished cartoon what your message is and what you learned about the Massey mining disaster.
