  2. Modern Language Association MLA is “an organization of teachers and scholars founded in 1883” (Franklin XV). Purpose: “to simplify the task” of preparing a paper MLA guidelines provide a uniform format for “documenting quotations, facts, opinions, and paraphrases” (Franklin xvi). Basically, MLA is a standard way to format a paper so that important information is in the right place, every time, for every writer—EASY!

  4. MLA Format: Heading A heading requires important information about you, your class, and your paper. The following information should be included in this order: 1. Your Name 2. Teacher’s Name 3. Name of Class 4. Due Date 24 January 2012

MLA Format: Page Number, Title • A page number should be included at the top of each page. • The page number goes in the right-hand corner of the page. • Include your last name before the page number: • Crowder 1 • Crowder 2 • The Title should be centered and only one line below the heading. There should also only be one line between the Title and the first line of your paper. Do not do anything funky with your title!

  7. MLA Format: Margins , Spacing, & Font Spacing: Your entire paper should be double-spaced. At no point should your paper have extra or fewer spaces. Margins: The margins for your paper should be 1” on all four sides. The only item that should break the margin is your last name and page number. Font: Font should be 12 pt. and readable: Times New Roman.

  8. MLA- Research Components • A Works Cited page is a list of works that you use for a research paper. Any source listed on that page must be referenced within the paper. • A Works Cited page uses the following format • Title is centered- Works Cited • Alphabetical order • Hanging indent • Double-spacing throughout
