  1. QUIZ You will have 10 minutes to complete the quiz on Chapter 5 Section 1 Write your name and class period on the on the scantron “Let’s see what you have learned”

  2. a. Explain the job of factors that control traits such as “red hair” and Explain thejobs of the DNA wrapped in proteinsin the process of getting on a specific trait like brown eye color. Standard REMIX S7L3 Students will S7L3 Students will recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations.

  3. AoI: Human IngenuityLearner Profile: Reflective and Thinker IB Infusion

  4. Learning Target • Today I will learn about genetics and how traits are passed on, so that I can better understand how I got my traits from my parents.

  5. Warm-UP Compare/Contrast Genotype & Phenotype

  6. Warm-Up Compare/Contrast Genotype & Phenotype

  7. Genotype vs. Phenotype Reflective: • “alleles” are forms of genes • “genes” control trait (specific characteristics) “red hair” THINKER • Genotype is “defined” as the genetic combinations of alleles • Homozygous: “two of the same” alleles • Examples are: • TT------------> Homozygous DOMINANT (2 capital letters) or • tt-------------> Homozygous RECESSIVE (2 lower case letters) • Heterozygous: “two different” alleles • Ex: Tt (2 different letters, one CAPITAL & one Lower Case • Phenotype is defined as the physical appearance of alleles • WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE??????? • Lets say T is for height, T=== Tall, t=====short • TT------>Tall (2 dominant alleles) “looks TALL” • Tt------> Tall (1 dominant allele “hides” the recessive allele) Looks TALL • tt-------> Short (2 recessive alleles) Looks SHORT

  8. Let’s Practice!!!! If the letter G represents the trait eye color G===> represents green eye color & g===> represents blue eye color So…… • What is the genotype for a heterozygous pair of alleles? • What is the genotype for homozygous recessive pair of alleles?

  9. Let’s Practice!!!! If the letter G represents the trait eye color G===> represents green eye color & g===> represents blue eye color So…… • What is the genotype for a heterozygous pair of alleles?_Gg_ • What is the genotype for homozygous recessive pair of alleles?gg

  10. Let’s Practice!!!! If the letter G represents the trait eye color G===> represents green eye color & g===> represents blue eye color So…… • What is thephenotypefor a heterozygous pair of alleles Gg? Green • What is the phenotype for homozygous recessive pair of allelesgg? Blue
