  4. Mixing Mirrors in the Admissions Process • Applicants are reporting that they are being asked to look in a mirror and see someone else • WP seems to have diverted the attention of some admissions staff • Disability is ALWAYS the less glamorous Cinderella within WP Anne Tynan

  5. Disability and Admissions • Two key issues: • 1. Competence • 2. ‘Added competence’ & Identity = enhancing professional interactions with disabled people as patients Anne Tynan

  6. Competence • Time To Take Stock: Disability and Professional Competence • Alternative methods of competence • Clearer indication of what constitutes incompetence Anne Tynan

  7. ‘Added Competence’ & Identity • Two strands: • Work of Disability Rights Commission to ensure equality of healthcare provision for disabled people • Developing awareness of the realities of failures by healthcare professionals Anne Tynan
