  1. Pre-K Progress Monitoring Report

Rational • The purpose for changing from a “Report Card” to a “Progress Monitoring Report”was to move the Pre K reporting process toward a more developmentally appropriate “growth model.” • By reporting growth on specific standards three times a year, parents will be able to monitor their child’s progress towards “school readiness” • Teachers will be able to use the data to develop instruction that address individual needs in areas of deficiency

Development • Development of the new “Progress Monitoring Report” was started with a review of the Work Sampling System checklist for four year-olds, currently being used by MSDE and the Maryland Common Core Curriculum for Pre K • Specific standards currently being accessed by MSDE were selected to be included on the “Progress Monitoring Report”for each of the seven domains of early childhood. This included standards addressing the areas of Personal/Social, Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE and the Arts

Assessment Rubrics • Growth expectations for the year were based on the MMSRFall Exemplars for Kindergarten developed by the Maryland State Department of Education • Rubrics for each standard were developed for each standard using the MMSR Fall Exemplars for Kindergarten • The use of these rubrics will provide consistency in data district wide.

  5. Data Entry • Data for each domain was entered by each pre-k teacher into Inform • The Inform program allowed individual “Pre-k Progress Monitoring Reports” to be created for each student • “Pre-k Progress Monitoring Reports” display the level at which each Pre-k child is performing in each domain three times a year (November 18th, March 3rd and at the end of the year)
