What is the SACE? • SACE stands for South Australian Certificate of Education • A qualification for entry into universities and further training • Recognised nationally and internationally • Develops skills for work, training and further study • Recognises learning and skills in and out of school

How the SACE Works There are two ‘stages’ of the SACE: • Stage 1 - generally completed in Year 11 • Subjects semesterised into half-year blocks • Some compulsory requirements • 100% Internally assessed – with external moderation • Graded A to E • Stage 2 - generally completed in Year 12 • Most subjects run for full year • One compulsory requirement – only half year • 70% internal and 30% external assessment • Graded A+ to E- • Completed subjects earn credits towards the SACE

SACE Requirements • Need 200 credits to achieve a SACE Certificate • Stage 1 • Compulsory PLP pass – 10 Credits • Compulsory Literacy pass– 20 Credits • Compulsory Numeracy pass – 10 Credits • Another 90 Credits • 130 Stage 1 credits • Stage 2 • Compulsory Research Project at C- or better – 10 Credits • Another 60 Credits at C- or better • 70 Stage 2 credits

SACE at PAC • Stage 1 • PLP – 10 credits • English – 20 credits • Mathematics – 20 or 30 or 40 credits (ability dependent) • Other Stage 1 subject choices to fill timetable • Total of 140 Stage 1 credits • Stage 2 • Research Project – 10 credits • 4 (or 5) other Stage 2 subjects • Total of 90 (or 110) Stage 2 credits • PAC students typically complete the SACE with 230 SACE credits

  8. Recognised Learning The SACE recognises learning both in and outside school, for example: • Vocational Education and Training courses (VET) • University and TAFE courses • Community learning (such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or volunteer work)

Vocational Education and Training • If students prefer hands-on learning or work outside the classroom, they can earn SACE credits for a wide range of activities • Students can learn on-the-job skills while working towards both the SACE and a VET qualification • VET options are available at both Stage 1 and Stage 2 • For more information – see Ms. Tabitha Noble

Further Study – Applying for University • To apply for university you need to have: • Completed the SACE • Gained 80 Stage 2 credits, including at least 60 credits from Tertiary Admissions Subjects (TAS), and the other 20 credits from either TAS and/or Recognised Studies – results in an ATAR • Completed the prerequisites needed for some university courses. • Ensure your subject combination complies with rules on counting restrictions • Check your subject combination meets your future pathway requirements
