FOLLOW USFACEBOOK: Nicky van Dyk Tennis AcademyContact: Mandi Liebenberg 081 801 0168nickyvandyktennis@gmail.com • The Nicky van Dyk Rising Super Stars Programme at VillieriaTennis Club coached and managed by Mandi Liebenberg, has been designed to give children professional training with goals to achieve individual improvement – both on and off the court. Our unique structured programme allows children and parents to see a clear pathway through their tennis journey. • Players 10 and under are placed in one of 3 colour-coded stages of development – RED,ORANGEor GREEN based on his or her age and tennis ability. Students and parents will be able to track their progress with the Nicky van Dyk Rising Super Starts Development Card as they complete various tennis drills, exercises and games. • In the process, the court size, the racket length, ball speed and duration of the games will increase until the player is ready to move to the full court and use the yellow ball. Each session will follow a court rotation system where students will develop different skills on each court with our team of professional coaches. There will be no more than 4 children per coach/court to ensure maximum progress and individual attention is given to each player.

  4. RED RISING SUPER STARS Redis when the children get their first introduction to the game, learning to rally and play different types of shots. COURT Size 11 – 12m length & 5 – 6m width and the net height 80cm BALLS & RACKETS Both red foam or felt balls can be used. Red balls are larger than orange, green or standard yellow balls and are approx. 75% slower than a normal ball. SCORING Tiebreaks to 7 or 10 points are the primary scoring format, although lower numbers can be used. More experienced players may progress to play best of 3 tiebreaks to 7, while timed matches up to 15 min are also suitable. COMPETITION FORMAT Children should start competition in teams with students playing short matches

  5. Orange Rising Super Stars Orange, players coming from the red apply all the game skills they learned to a bigger court and a faster ball. COURT Size 18 X 6.5m or 8.23m width and the net height is 80cm BALLS & RACKETS The orange ball is the same size as the yellow ball but is approx. 50% slower and bounces lower. On this court a racket between 23” & 25” should be used. SCORING All players are likely to be older and can play in competitions. A longer competition duration is generally used, with the best of 3 tiebreaks or 1 short set to 4 games format. COMPETITION FORMAT Children continue to participate in team based competition with singles and doubles in short matches. The players who are more confident may now want to play more individual competition. Most competition formats are between 2 – 4 hours duration.

  6. GREEN RISING SUPER STARS Green, is the final stage before using the yellow ball. It provides the ideal opportunity to check that all the basic tennis skills are in place before moving on to the yellow ball. Green is also the stage where players should be challenged in all areas of the court, with balls bouncing at a variety of heights and speeds. COURT Green is the same as the full-size court. Players should only move to this court size when they are physically ready. BALLS & RACKETS The green ball is approx. 25% slower than the yellow ball and will bounce higher than the orange ball. Players should use a racket between 25” & 26” in length and with an even balance. SCORING The green stage is played at 1 X Short set to 4 games or best of 3 short sets. It is still acceptable to use other shorter scoring formats for less confident players who may enjoy this more than formal events. COMPETITION FORMAT Children will still enjoy team formats and doubles, but players will be playing more individual events than at the previous two stages. Events are between 3 hours.

  7. RISING SUPER STARS DEVELOPMENT SQUADS There is no designated age at which a player should move to the yellow ball. On average children tend to be ready for the full game when they have successfully progressed through the Rising Super Star programme. Children who appear to be good enough to play full court earlier may move through sooner, but there are benefits from continuing to play with the green ball to encourage good technical and tactical development. Having children compete where they feel challenged but not overwhelmed is essential to keeping junior players in the game.
