Objectives • Improve grammatical accuracy and comfort level with the language • Understand spoken and written Spanish with greater facility • Speak in Spanish as much as possible • Write more accurately using a variety of Spanish tenses (popplet.com/graphic organizers) • Understand and appreciate other cultures through reading, listening and discussing current events and issues

Authentic resources used frequently in Spanish class University of Texas website-Listening comprehension exercises Mary Glasgow magazine articles—Current events, Reading, Listening and conversation Listening comprehension, Current events—BBC in Spanish, Univision Music, News, Weather, Sports-- http://www.newsinslowspanish.com/ www.ver-taal.com/ Expresate textbook and workbook listening activities

  4. Course Materials • Textbook • Binder with loose-leaf paper divided into the following sections: • Class notes/Handouts, Classwork, Homework, Tests/Quizzes, Graded classwork & homework • Pen with blue or black ink • Agenda pad

  5. Grading Policy Classwork may include worksheets, mini -presentations, textbook or workbook exercises • Homework (assigned daily)—Students should copy down assignment from board at the beginning of class. • Quizzes/Tests • Quizzes may include a listening, speaking or writing component • Participation • Grades are based on a point system • Please check Power School regularly

Discipline and Make up work • Students are expected to… • Arrive to class on time • Be prepared with course materials • Be respectful of their teacher and peers • Refrain from chewing gum, eating or drinking in class—bottled water only! • No cell phones or iPods—Ask permission first. • Make up all missed work with an excused absence by the end of the week or by a date agreed upon with me • It is the student’s responsibility to see me about when and where to make up missed work

Parental Involvement • Check child’s assignment pad or binder • Ask to see quiz or test grades • Become aware of what textbooks your child is or is not bringing home on a daily basis • Set aside a time and place for study time and homework completion (15-20 minutes per night) • Provide a quiet environment for studying • Quiz your child on vocabulary words or review questions at the end of the chapter or story • Check Power School regularly • My phone extension is X5139 • Email: mhayes@wmrhsd.org
