  1. ECE II Objective 5.01 Apply procedures for infant care.

  2. Extra Resources--Textbooks: • The Developing Child, Chapter 7 • Working with Young Children • Page 434—Feeding Infants • Page 435—Sample Infant Daily Record • Page 436—Diapering and Toileting • Page 438—Naptime

  3. 5.01 Learning Log • Write about a time when you cared for an infant. • Write down your feelings and what you remember about caring for the infant. • What steps should be followed for hand washing, feeding, diapering, and naptime for infants? • Will answer after we finish this objective today.

  4. Key Terms • During your rotation, complete the section on the fill in the blanks key terms handout of the station you are in during that rotation. • For example: • When you are in station 1: Hand-washing, answering those key terms only. • You will answer all the other’s when you get to that particular station.

  5. “It’s Time for a Change” • Class will be divided into 4 groups – 3 per group. • Each group will be given handouts and will be set-up on a rotation to 4 different station. • Station 1 Hand Washing • Station 2 Feeding • Station 3 Diapering • Station 4 Naptime • Each group will follow the directions in the Baby Wipe Box • After time is called, each group will rotate to the next Station.

  6. Demonstrate • Your group will set up “demonstration stations” for the station you started your rotation with. • Each group will present their demonstration to class. • Each group will watch and grade the demonstrations using a Grading Rubric. • BE ready to show us your BEST hand washing, feeding, diapering, and napping!!!

  7. “How to Care for Infants” • 5.01 I handout • Follow the instructions to make a foldable diaper organizer with four sections on which to write steps for each procedure.

  8. Sample Scenario: • You will be working with your group to write 3 scenarios (1 per person) using the steps for infant care procedures. • Sample: • You are ready to diaper a baby and you have to go get the diaper. Which step in diapering did you forget to do? • You will then trade scenarios; role play what to do. • Use role play tag where a student tags a character, takes his/her place, and shows what he/she would have done differently.

  9. “Infant Care Mobile Review” • Before we view the other PP, Complete 5.01K handout • As you view the PowerPoint, you may add any procedures you could not remember and correct any you recorded incorrectly.
