  2. Objective The Student Council members with be introduced to read aloud skills, and apply skills in guided practice activities in preparation for reading Christmas stories to Pre-K students.

  3. Why Read Aloud • Condition the child’s brain to associate reading with pleasure • Creates background knowledge • Build vocabulary • Provide a reading role model

  4. Read Aloud Tips • Start with picture books. They have fewer sentences. • Familiarize yourself with the book by scanning it before reading. • Discuss illustration on the cover. • Make sure to show pictures.

  5. Cont’d. Read Aloud Tips • Don’t be shy. • Read with expression. • Create voices for different characters. • Vary your pace. Slowing down builds suspense. Speeding up adds excitement.
