Canada’s Relationship with South Africa • Established a diplomatic relationship in 1939 as a result of World War II • Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms was influenced by the Constitution of South Africa • When apartheid was happening in South Africa, there was trade embargo implemented to encourage policy change • Canada reached out to South Africa to end the apartheid
