  2. Unit Summary • You are now a Forest Ranger! Students will investigate and understand the key concepts of adaptations, habitats, and the influences of human activity on our ecosystem. Students will choose a native Virginia forest animal, research using the internet, write a report using Microsoft Word, and create a habitat diorama for their animal. Students will share report with classmates.

  3. Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question: How do we survive in everyday life? Unit Questions: • Why are animal habitats important? • How do certain Virginia animals live and survive in their habitats? • Do animals adapt to all types of habitats? • How does human activity impact ecosystems?

  4. CFQs continued Content Questions: • What is adaptation? • How does your native Virginia animal adapt to it’s habitat? • What is a survival behavior/adaptation? • What are two behaviors of your animal? • What does your animal need to survive in?

  5. Forest Ranger Goals Students will take on the job of being a forest ranger in Virginia. Students will investigate and understand key concepts of adaptations, habitats, and influences of human activity on our ecosystem. Students will incorporate the following 21st Century skills: -explore internet search engines to find information on a native VA animal -print a photo of the animal from the internet -create a summary on their animal using specific information guidelines SOL

  6. My Goals -Learn to design activities to engage my students using various technology skills -Adapt assessments to meet individual needs/IEP goals -Increase technology skills in order to incorporate more technology into my lesson plans

  7. Assessment Students will be assessed on their final written project. Students must meet the criteria using recorded information from internet search.
