WHY? • Impact on Teaching and Learning and school community • Strong UFA ethos already in place • Reinforcing and extending empowerment of students • Links to: • School Development Plan • Behaviour policy (positive role-models, turning problems into solutions, working with teachers and disaffected students…) • ECM (G&T, OOHL, disaffected students, school motto, “Make a positive contribution, Achieve economic/social wellbeing, Enjoy and achieve” from the five key outcomes in White Paper…) • PSHE and active citizenship (negotiating, taking responsibility, making decisions…) • Business and Enterprise (working and delivering to adults, sometimes other schools, planning, organising resources and delivering events, using skills from world of work)

  4. WHO? • Fellows (UFA framework) • Six Teachers and one TA • A range of pupils: • 19 boys, 61 girls • 65 year 10 students, 15 year 9 students • Almost 10% of the students • Range of ability

HOW? • Continuous Professional Development option, 9 groups: 6 groups • Peer tutors (Summer Challenge) • School Council • Group of Evaluators (interviews, lesson observations) • Junior Fellows • Play Leaders (PALs) • Friendly Faces 3 flexible groups • Ambassadors • Trainers • Student Researchers An additional group has emerged: School Travel Plan Group • PGCE student’s SA

  6. IMPACT • Students are becoming independent in their learning and are passing on their skills: • 12 Friendly Faces disseminated their training to their fellow Friendly Faces • Throughout the year, a small group of year 9 students is planning, organising and will be delivering (with the support of two teachers) a one week long Summer Challenge • The Play Leaders Group have renamed themselves the PALs, Play and Laughs and is run and organised by 5 year 10 students (with the supervision of the teacher)

NEXT STEPS • Dissemination: CD, voice in Training School Newsletter • Evaluation and changes • Recognition: badges, certificates • Four key aims: • New students will recognise the different strands of Student Voice and be motivated to join in one area • Student Voice will be inclusive • Staff will perceive Student Voice and the potential for its development as a positive feature of the school • SMT to further consider the potential for Student Voice and lead a whole school approach
