At the Cape Epic 2005, recovery services were highlighted by Prof. Myburgh and Hons student Roxane Nass, who worked in the massage tent. Among the team, Karen van Tubbergh, an MSc graduate specializing in recovery modalities, showcased her expertise in ice therapy and muscle recovery. Her thesis focused on the activation of muscle stem-cell-like satellite cells in response to delayed onset muscle soreness. The massage tent provided essential care to athletes like Michael Flynn, a dedicated 4th-year BSc Sport Science student, helping them rejuvenate throughout the rigorous race.
