  2. Anubis • Anubis is the jackal-headed god of funerals at mummification. He protected the body while it was prepared for burial and continued tpo guard it on the tomb. • He was the protector of the dead and embalming. • Anubis’ wife is a goddess called Anput. His daughter is the goddess Kebechet. • He was usually portrayed as a half human – half jackal, or in full jackal form wearing a ribbon and holding a flail in the crook of its arm.

  3. Modern Context • Anubis was a villain that appeared in a cartoon series “Mummies Alive” • Although based on the Egyptian god of mummification and death the Anubis seen in Mummies Alive was a more standard henchman-type villain who was also used for mild comedic effect. • He was one of the “hounds” sent by Scarab to retrieve the soul of Rapses.

  4. Modern Context • Aunbis was seen in the movie Night at the Museum. When all the creatures came to life at night. Aunbis was chasing Larry Daley played by Ben Stiller.

  5. Modern Context • Anubis was also in the movie The Mummy Returtns, the Scorpion King Supposedly trades his soul to Anubis for an army of jackal-headed warriors.

  6. My Opinion • I feel like Anubis is given this villian image in modern context is because Anubis is the god of funerals and mummification. So that just really gives him the natural villain image.
