  5. Outreach Activities • Work with the School and College liaison officers within the University. • Engage with personal tutors and lecturers at local colleges and schools.

Outreach Activities • University Led • Taster Days • Master classes • Summer School • Open Days • Generic • Open to all students and parents • Specific • An open day for Access Students • Government Led • Aim Higher • STEM In all cases contact is maintained through ECP to provide a single point of contact. Not always possible though.

  8. Taster Day • Is student led • Work with ECP to set out days • ECP contacts local school and colleges. • Work together to deliver the day

Work Distribution • Administration is carried out by the ECP team • Sending out invitations • Room booking • Catering • Student ambassadors (Subject specific) • Health & Safety • Goody bags • Collating all registers and evaluations • School staff carry out the event • Provide staff for the event. • Subject specific talk • Labs • Career advice

  10. Frequency of Taster Days • 2006: 1 Taster Days, 50 Students • 2007: 4 Taster Days, 215 Students • 2008: 9 Taster Days, 207 Students

What is the secret to successful Taster Days • Plan the dates in advance.. • Dates were provided to the ECP team in July for the upcoming academic year. • Keep the event short and snappy.. • Taster days last up to 4 hours • Group similar years together. • Act on feedback. • Have enthusiastic staff at hand!

  15. Future Development • We track colleges not individual students which is where we would like to improve. • More colleges and schools • Run sessions in Schools

External Partnerships • Partnering with institutions in the UK and abroad • Franchises • Articulations for advance entry • Placement opportunities for students. • Member of staff dedicated to look at developing International links. • Actively pursue leads both in UK and abroad. • Try and adapt to the need of the partner institution. Not a case of one size fits all.

  17. Future Development • Develop more links. • Work towards embedding curriculum in programmes.
