Understanding Immigration: Assimilation and Pluralism in Cultural Diversity

This lesson focuses on the key concepts of assimilation and pluralism in the context of immigration. Students will explore human traits that are immutable, such as height, and engage in activities to understand the dimensions of diversity. The lesson highlights primary dimensions, which are unchangeable, and secondary dimensions, which can evolve. Through readings and discussions, including the play "A Peacock in the Land of Penguins," students will analyze how immigration relates to cultural identities and examine the differences and similarities between assimilation and pluralism.
