Summary (May 2013-Present)

Since May 2013, I have been actively contributing to the Zg production group. My work involves examining the cross-section of Zg production and utilizing the MCFM program for NLO simulations. I have calculated the systematic errors related to Zg NLO theoretical predictions and identified key contributors, such as QCD scales. My next focus will be to consolidate individual systematic errors and calculate an overall error for the Zg cross-section prediction, followed by a similar analysis for Zgg production.

  1. Summary (May 2013-Present) Neil Delwadia

  2. Summary • Worked for Al this past summer • Contributing to Zg(g) group • Examining cross section of Zg(g) production • Introduced to MCFM program • NLO simulations • Using simulations to check how well cross section predictions line up with data (2012)

  3. MCFM Progress • Have used MCFM to calculate systematic error involved with Zg NLO theory predictions • Have identified main contributors to systematic error. • QCD scales - • mrenorm– varies the energy at which the strong coupling constant is evaluated • mfact – varies the energy that evolves the parton content of the proton

  4. Systematic Errors Ds = ΔDs =

  5. Progress/Plans • Next, we must consolidate individual systematic errors and calculate an overall error for the Zg cross section prediction • Then, repeat the process for Zgg production.
