  1. Fermanagh Learning Community How have the Careers Subgroup contributed to the work of the Area Learning Community?

  2. Regular Meetings • The Careers subgroup have met on regularly since March 2009. • Within the Careers Subgroup there are smaller working groups. Who have been working on different areas of the FLC Implementation Plan CEIAG.

  3. Priority 3 Target 1Identify skills shortage areas through the review of local and regional labour market information including reference to all relevant local and regional strategy documents for example the NI Skills Strategy.

  4. Priority 3 Target 1 • CEIAG group have been establishing links with local industry and businesses. • Questionnaires distributed to ascertain employers’ views on how students should be equipped for entering the world of work. • Supporting curriculum development to meet the needs of students in the FLC.

  5. Priority 3 Target 2Develop pathways and progression opportunities which reflect the development of curriculum priorities identified by FLC.

  6. Priority 3 Target 2 • Preparing the content for the Area based prospectus. • Articulating a range of pathways and progression routes available in FLC. • Complement the work of the Curriculum Group by ascertaining and supporting the needs of students and parents at key transition points.

  7. Priority 3 Target 3Identify the courses including Applied courses that would enhance the range of options available to the learner moving into FE/HE/training/employment.

  8. Priority 3 Target 3 • This group has identified a range of courses including applied courses that could be delivered in schools; and • researched the applied courses which suit the needs of individual students in line with meeting the requirements of the Entitlement Framework.

  9. Quality Assurance Group • This group developed Questionnaires related specifically to CEIAG. • These were piloted with Students and Parents selected from Year 10 and 12. • Results collated and available from CEIAG staff. • Developing resources to support the delivery of CEIAG in FLC.

  10. Continued Professional Development • Running parallel to these activities the Careers subgroup has been developing its resources and skills as careers advisors. • The group has been developing materials to make all staff aware of the need to promote STEM subjects in schools. • A training day has been organised in the last term on the Career Guidance Process. This will be delivered by Dr Rob Millar from the University of Ulster.

  11. Reflection to date • Careers subgroup has been proactive & co-operative since its commencement in March 2009. • Individuals within the group are gaining from networking with their peers through shared experiences and examples of good practice.
