  2. About our Purpose ! • It’s not about me ! • Col 1:16 “For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels--everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him ” (The Message)

  3. About our purpose ! • You are not an Accident ! • Isa 44:2a “ I am your Creator, You were in my care even before you were born ” (Contemporary English Version)

What drives your life ? • Many people are driven by guilt(1) • Gods purpose for your life is not limited by your past • Moses, murderer turned into a leader • Gideon, a coward into a courageous hero • 1Joh 1:9 “ On the other hand, if we admit our sins--make a clean breast of them--he won't let us down; he'll be true to himself. He'll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing ” (The Message) • Psa 32:1 “ A David psalm. Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be-- you get a fresh start, your slate's wiped clean ” (Living Bible) • Psa 32:2 “ Count yourself lucky-- GOD holds nothing against you and you're holding nothing back from him ”

  5. What drives your life ? • Resentment and anger(2) • To forgive but not forgotten • Job 5:2 “ To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do ” (Today’s English Version)

What drives your life ? • Many people are driven by fear(3) • Many reasons for a fearful life: traumatic experience, unrealistic expectations etc. • Overcome fear with faith • 1Joh 4:17 “ This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we're free of worry on Judgment Day--our standing in the world is identical with Christ's ” (The Message) • Rom 8:35 “Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture ”

  7. What drives your life ? • Materialism(4) • Secondary source of happiness • Your value is not determined by your valuables • Jesus warned people more about the dangers of money, that any other subject

  8. What drives your life ? • Driven by the need for approval(5) • Young people fall victim to the need for approval from peers • Adults want approval from …………

  9. Benefits of a purpose driven life • Knowing your purpose gives meaning to your life • Jer 29:11 “ I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out--plans (purpose) to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for ” (New Century Version) • Knowing your purpose simplifies your life • Isa 26:3 “ You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you ” (Today’s English Version) • Knowing your purpose focuses your life • Without purpose, you will keep changing directions, school subjects, university courses, jobs, relationships, churches etc. • Magnifying glass ! • Phi 3:13 “ I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead ” (New Living Translation)

Benefits of a purpose driven life • Knowing your purpose motivates your life • George Bernard Shaw wrote: • “ This is the true joy of life: the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one: being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish clot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy ” • Knowing your purpose prepares you for eternity • Its is not what others say about your life but what God says • Earthly legacies are short sighted

  11. Eventually, we're all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. (Rom 14:10c)(New Living Translation) • On the day of judgment God will ask from each one of us: • “ What did you do with my Son, Jesus Christ ? ” • “ What did you do with what I gave you ? ” • The first question will determine where you will spend eternity. • The second question will determine what you do in eternity.

  12. Conclusion • Living on purpose is the path to peace • Isa 26:3 “ You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you ” (Today’s English Version)
