  2. Outline What Is • State Estimator (SE) • Simultaneous Feasibility Test (SFT) IT Status Update On • State Estimator • Simultaneous Feasibility Test

  3. Injection schedules are used to calculate the system states and then calculate branch flows Convergence based on close to Zero bus power mismatch Simulates Voltage Control, MVAr Limits etc. Redundant set of measurements is used to estimate system states and then calculate branch flows Convergence based on minimizing the weighted sum of the difference between measured and estimated values Voltage control and MVAr Limits handled by pseudo measurements Power Flow vs. State Estimator State Estimator is not Power Flow Power Flow State Estimator

  4. Simultaneous Feasibility Test Valid State Estimator solution is not a prerequisite for SFT Bus Model • Modeled Load Distribution • OR • SE Adapted Load Distribution for measured loads+ Modeled Load Distribution for other loads • Generation Distribution • LAAR Distribution • Breaker Normal Status + Outages from OS • OR • Equipment Status from SCADA SFT SPD • Branch overloads • Shift Factors to relieve overloads • Network Equipment • Network Connectivity • Network Parameters • Breaker Normal Status SE Output Real Time data Model/Static data

  5. State Estimator Status • 90% convergence rate when maintained by operations • About 25 buses with greater than 50 MW/MVar mismatch Usage • Refinement of the network model • Observe unmeasured portions of the network • Real-Time contingency analysis after model correction by operators Focus • 95% convergence rate when maintained by operations • All bus mismatches below 50 MW/MVar Issues • Non-telemetered switching devices • Modeling/Mapping inconsistencies

  6. Simultaneous Feasibility Test Status • System level functionality tested successfully on the test systems • Testing on production systems to simulate real market scenarios • January 8 testing on production systems uncovered TWO irregularities • One fix successfully tested and migrated on 4th February • AS, RPRS market enhancements will be migrated by 17th February • Second fix will be tested and migrated by 19th February • Any new software updates will be migrated by the end of February • Business will determine use of SFT in production based on performance
