  1. Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act • This bill was passed by congress on March 16,1934 by congress, so it is a national law. • It is commonly known as “Duck Stamp Act”. • It requires every hunter over the age of 16 to have a federal hunting stamp. Proceeds from the sale of these stamp goes into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund. The original price of a stamp was $1 • The bill was amended in 1949, 1958, 1971,1978,1984,1986,1988,1998. Each time it was to increase the cost of buying a hunting stamp.

  2. Purpose/Function • Its main purpose was to acquire and protect wetlands by the Federal Government. • This bill replaced the Migratory Bird Conservation Act (1929) which didn’t appropriate money to buy and preserve wetlands. • The bill was designed to protect the wetlands habitats of birds such as ducks, geese, and swans. Since it passage the program has resulted in protecting 4,500 acres of wetlands

  3. Regulation • The stamps are purchased through the US Post Office. It currently costs $15 to purchase a stamp, but hunters have to pay for a state stamp as well. • Powerpoint by: Douglas Levine
