Big Bang Theory • The current theory behind where all matter started Note that the only elements that come from the Big Bang are: Hydrogen Helium Lithium (a little bit) The expansion of the universe began at a finite time in the past, in a state of enormous density, pressure and temperature. Small Stars- fuse H into He & then fuse He into C, N, and O. These last 3 Elements make up the air we breathe & More than 85% of our body weight. Fusion- process of 2 small atomic nuclei coming together to make a larger nucleus. The simplest nuclei to use are deuterium & tritium (isotopes of hydrogen)

According to NASA Beginning of Heavier Elements Large stars supernovae • Make heavy as well as light elements through process of fusion in their cores. • i.e. large stars create Ca in your bones & Fe in your blood, the Si in the soil, & the S that’s in your hair • The explosive power of supernovae creates & disperses a wide range of elements. • i.e. the chlorophyll in green plants contains Mg from supernovae. The Au used in jewelry & the Ti used in light-weight eyeglass frames.
