  3. Role in the human body This organ system breaks down food by digestion. It helps remove waste that is harmful from the body. This particular system makes food absorbable into the body

  4. Major organs The major organs are • Mouth • Esophagus • Liver • Gallbladder • Stomach • Large/Small Intestines • Rectum • Anus

  5. Major organs functions The mouth chews the food so it is easier to digest. The esophagus is a long muscular tube that carries the food & liquid you eat down to your stomachwhich mixes the food with stomach acid , the liver provides bile and the pancreas provides pancreatic juice and produces digestive enzymes. The small intestines are where most food products are absorbedThe large intestines are responsible for absorption of water and excretion of solid waste. And the rectum temporarily stores the waste, and then is removed from the anus.

  6. How do the organs work together When you eat food, chew it, and swallow it goes down the esophagus before going to the stomach. After the stomach takes the chewed food, and combines the nutrients with stomach acid.

  7. How do the organs work together It then goes through the small intestines which releases chemicals such as bile, and pancreatic juice, provided by the pancreas and liver, then the large intestines, Then the waste temporarily before leaving the anus

  8. Circulatory system is connected to the digestive system The circulatory system transports nutrients from the digestive system to the cells that need them. The circulatory system also supplies the digestive system with blood and oxygen

  9. The endocrine system is connected to the digestive system The digestive system provides energy and nutrition that the endocrine system uses and regulates. The endocrine system in turn regulates the digestive system by producing hormones such as insulin that help metabolize nutrients

  11. Diseases There are many diseases in the digestive system, however the are two in particular, the first, gastroesophageal reflux. It is a chronic symptom of mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus. There is no known cure.

  12. Diseases Another disease is celiac disease, which is a disease that makes people react to gluten. The immune system reacts to gluten and damage the villi in the small intestines. When the villi are damaged, the body is incapable to absorb the vitamins and minerals. People with celiac disease are therefore at can develop a decreased number of red blood cells due to lack of iron. The only known cure is a gluten-free diet. Damaged villi
