Developing the strategy/pillars (2) • Strategy to cover totality of values and outcomes in Principles and Issues Consultation • Pillars developed as mechanism to take forward strategy • Where NW has international/national competitive advantage • Ensure distinctiveness • Combine agendas • Deliver complementary growth across the region and sub regions

Issues • Balancing competitive advantage with those things which must be addressed such as climate change, poor health, deprivation, spatial land use, low skills etc. • All key activities such as housing stock, core skills, core sectors, employment land, aggregate minerals, waste etc. to be included. • Either contribution to pillars or specific actions • Pillars and place balanced to mutual advantage for the region

Next Steps • Development work on pillars mapping key assets against sub regional priorities and contribution to outcomes • Work led by NWDA and 4NW with support from • RS2010 Project Team • Regional Intelligence Unit • Sustainability Appraisal Team • Specific expertise • RS2010 Advisory Group • Identify potential actions and options for inclusion in Part 1

  10. Questions and Discussion • How can we ensure third sector activity is core to the strategy? • What assets of comparative advantage does the region have in terms of social capital?
