Farming in the Northeast • River valleys brought in fertile soil, which was good for growing crops. • Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York were the best colonies for farming. • The German farmers were good with the soil, and kept the soil rich using crop rotation. • Wheat grew so well that they had plenty of leftover to sell and trade. • Oliver Evans created a new kind of mill to make life easier on wheat farms
