Aims of the Presentation • To acquaint with the history of amber. • To deepen the knowledge about the objects of Amber Road in Lithuania. • To show the significance of Amber Road in the development of culture, art and science.
Amber • A mineral of organic origin, formed from conifer tree resin. • More than 250 known kinds with new ones discovered every year.
Baltic amber • “Northern gold”. • Contains no heavy metals. • Can be used in medicine and cosmetic. • 80 % of the world’s amber is found in the Baltic Sea region.
Amber road • Amber was exported at least from 16thcentury. • Amber was transported from Northern countries to the Mediterranean Sea coast and further.
Amber road • Baltic amber has been found in the grave of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamen. • It also reached the old Phoenicia, Greece, Rome.

Amber collection place in Karkle Karkleis a village on the coast of the Baltic Sea, between Palanga and Klaipeda. It is the place where most Lithuanian amber is found.
