  2. Instruction Manual http://education.ti.com/downloads/guidebooks/eng/83gb.pdf

  3. Topics • I. How to store equations • II. How to use the table • III. The “Calc” section • IV. “Math” section tricks • V. Graphing tricks • VI. TI-83/83+ Programs

  4. I. How to store equations 1. Press Program Button [PRGM] 2. Move cursor to NEW and select ‘Create New’ select [ALPHA] to name folder in which you will store equations, hit enter when you are finished 3. Type in an equation, hit enter to store 4. To exit, type [2ND] [MODE] (Quit)

  5. II. How to use the table 1. After having graphed the equation, to use table hit [2ND] [GRAPH] (Table) 2. The table may be used to find the zeros and matching X-Y coordinates 3. To find the zeros, scroll down or up X-column to look for a zero; if there is no zero look for a change from + to -, or – to +. if you cannot find a zero, change the table settings by [2ND] [WINDOW} (TBLSET) 4. To raise or lower the first X-coordinate, type a new number under ‘TblStart’ 5. To increase or decrease the increments between X-coordinates (ex. By 0.5 instead of type a new number under ‘^Tbl’ 6. To see modified table, hit [2ND] [GRAPH]. 7. Continue modifying table if necessary

  6. III. “Calc” section Finding indefinite integrals • Enter the equations that you want to find the integrals of • Press [2nd] TRACE (Calc) • Once in the Calc section press 7 and then enter • Select the two points that the integral is between by moving the curser to one point and pressing enter and then moving the curser to the other point and pressing enter

  7. IV. “Math” section tricks • This section of your calculator contains buttons which are not on the calculator. • Frac (Fractions): This button converts decimals to fractions. • Dec (decimals): This button converts fractions to decimals. • : Allows you to cube an equation • Allows you to cube root an equaiton • Allows you to find a variable root.

  8. V. Graphing tricks Shading • Once in the Y= format, move the cursor two clicks to the left until the diagonal line is highlighted. • Toggle the line by pressing ENTER until a small triangle appears facing either up or down (for shading above or below the line) • Press GRAPH to see the shaded region
