  2. Today we will be learning to: • develop and refine written methods for subtraction • subtract decimal fractions with up to four digits and up to two decimal places.

  3. Mental Activity We are going to practise doubling, trebling and halving numbers.

  7. Main Activity Today we are going to ensure that we can all confidently find the difference between pairs of decimals.

  8. Accurately finding the difference between a pair of decimal fractions is very useful when dealing with: money measurements and mass.

  9. Look at this example using money. £ 5.75 - £ 2.04 = £ 5 . 7 5 - £ 2 . 0 4 £ 3 . 7 1 Make sure the numbers line up under one another and that decimal points line up.

  13. Practise the method. Find the difference between £4.50 and 24p. Remember to convert between units.
