Undergraduate Programs • Computer Science • Classic degree offered since early 1980s at FIU • Blends computer science theory and practice • Required senior projects course • Fairly standard across the country; ABET Accredited • Information Technology • New degree offered since 2003 at FIU • More applied • Little agreement on what constitutes an IT degree • Few ABET accredited programs – many opt out

Graduate Programs • Computer Science • Master’s degree offered since early 1980s at FIU • Ph.D. program more recent – many successful grads • Standard curriculum • Telecommunications and Networking • Unique M.S. program (only one in state of Florida) • Information Technology • Starting Spring 2011; relatively few programs in the nation • Different ways to do MSIT programs around country • We want to be track focused

  5. Industry Can Help Us • Identify hot areas and needed courses especially for IT • But change can be slow • Experimental courses • Lecture series • Guest speakers • Adjunct Instructors from Industry
