Just as you did last semester (only this time you’ll be working in your DESIGN TEAM), you’ll be undertaking spatial planning on a LARGE and COMMERCIAL scale. This semester, we will be UPSCALING the activity to larger spaces including COMMERCIAL space. This design will be Assignment 2. You will need to work in a group of 4 people for this (exactly the way we work in design practice). With your team, you will do the spatial planning, and then once you have the space planned, you will develop the interior spaces individually. You will need your Metric Handbook for this. They should have at least 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms each. There are windows on all four exterior walls. You can include exterior space. You need to consider stairs AND lifts to the lower floors – possibly a foyer? You need to decide appropriate ceiling heights The middle floor is a commercial space, but the use (and design) is totally your choice. There are windows on three exterior walls; your choice of walls. You need to consider stairs AND lifts to the upper and lower floors – possibly a foyer? You need to decide appropriate ceiling heights The ground floor is another commercial space that includes an entry, which needs to be considered carefully. The client would like this to be a commercial space such as a cafe/restaurant. There are three columns in this space. You cannot remove them. There are only windows on the front and rear of the exterior walls. You need to consider stairs AND lifts to the upper floors – possibly a foyer?
