  5. Process Overview 1. Obtain UICs in MSDS 2. Create STARR File 3. Validate STARR file 4. Upload STARR File 5. Run STARR Reports Everything is the same as last year! STARR application has the same look, reports and navigation as last year!*

  6. 2013 Changes • Schema additions • Added “Credit Hours Attempted” as a new field • Changed dates to “yyyy-mm-dd” • Schema deletions • Award Level had enumerations deleted in the STARR manual last year but erroneously the enumerations still appeared in the schema. They have now been cut from the schema. • Population upload definition expanded to “…or earned a degree” • STARR Data Manual updates • Separates enumerations into commonly reported and those not commonly reported

  7. Data Quality • Make sure to include the entire academic record with each upload, do not just send us the current year. • Perform the suggested validation checks found in the STARR data manual. • Birth dates still have outliers. • Seeing courses and grades earned for terms that have not begun (e.g., Fall 2012). • For academic year 2012-13, the fall would be reported as “2012” and the spring/winter as “2013”. • Remedial crosswalks submitted to CEPI outside of STARR must have all remedial courses we’d see in your STARR file, not just current year offerings.

  8. 2014 Changes – Heads Up • Lots of changes coming! • STARR will be moving into the MSDS for greater efficiency. Data elements may be: • Cut • e.g., some transmission record elements, some residency fields • Added • e.g., financial aid, continuing ed and workforce training flags, FTIAC • Enhanced • e.g., name fields a max of 50 instead of 35, clearer definitions to align with CEDS, no more crosswalks submitted outside of STARR

  9. Communications • Updated STARR documents release • Clearing out STARR application for new upload • STARR open • STARR data quality • STARR closing and crosswalk reminder • STARR close
