  1. Recycling By Jasmine Salem And Scarlett ward

  2. It is easier for recycling men if you separate your recycling into different sections • Normally you would separate you rubbish into sections such as glass, plastic, cardboard, general waste and cans. • The UK provide all houses with recycling bins so no one has an excuse not to recycle

  3. Around 10 Billion pounds of rubbish is recycled each year in the UK • Everyone uses the saying ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’

  4. When you recycle you are making something else from the thing you don’t need anymore • If you don’t recycle all the rubbish gets put in a heap and has to dissolve • Some things take months to dissolve, some take years while others will never dissolve • Plastic bags can’t dissolve so it is better to reuse them

  5. Some places have recycling centres were they sort the rubbish • Ink cartridges can be filled up at shops and that is reusing • A large percentage of UK household’s still do not recycle enough and throw everything that they consider ‘rubbish’ into their ordinary bin. • Most of that rubbish actually can be recycled

  6. About one-fifth of what we throw away is organic waste that will rot • We are now running out of places to put our rubbish • Much of what we throw away is buried in the ground called Landfills • More than 30% of paper used to print newspapers is recycled

  7. Crisp packets which are made of plastic can not be recycled • In the past it was hard to recycle some types of waste • You should make compost out of your food waste • Many types of plastic can be recycled

  8. If you give ‘hand-me-downs’ you are reusing • As well as home recycling bins, there are many recycling banks across the UK that can be used to recycle different materials. • They are located on streets across the UK as well as in supermarkets and outside housing estates. • Most recycling banks are emptied on a regular basis, however, if you do come across one that is over-flowing, contact your local council who will arrange for the bank to be emptied.

  9. Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled. • The unreleased energy contained in the average dustbin each year could power a television for 5,000 hours. • The largest lake in the Britain could be filled with rubbish from the UK in 8 months. • On average, 16% of the money you spend on a product pays for the packaging, which ultimately ends up as rubbish.

  10. As much as 50% of waste in the average dustbin could be composted. • Up to 80% of a vehicle can be recycled. • 9 out of 10 people would recycle if it was made easier • The energy saved from recycling 1 glass bottle is enough a power a light bulb for four hours • Disposable nappies take 500 years to decompose

  11. Recycling prevents global warming • Half of all soda bottles will end up as a carpet • Each UK family uses an average of 500 glass bottles and jars annually. • If all cans in the UK were recycled, we would need 14 million fewer dustbins. • The Video • Recycling for kids with waste managements Mr. cool can
