  4. Communication • HCA employees play an important role in safety communication. • It is important to remember HCA Safety during events that may involve injuries or workplace emergencies.

  5. When to Call HCA Safety… • When 911 has been called and an employee is taken by ambulance (whether the injury was work related or not). • Anytime there is notification that an employee has been admitted to the hospital after a workplace injury. • After a vehicle accident involving a workplace injury. • When there has been major flooding, or a serious disaster such as a fire at a worksite. • When Cal/OSHA has contactedyour worksite by phone, mail, orhas arrived in person. • When you have Safety questions.

  6. During Business Hours… Call HCA Safety Cell: 714-470-4207 Do Not just leave a messageor send an e-mail!

  7. After Hours… • Call the CEO Safety Manager cell phone: 714-981-6288 (back up number is on the message). • If no answer, call the Sheriff Watch Commander at 714-628-7000. Request for the Safety Manager to be contacted. You will need to provide a call back number and address.

  8. Definition of a Serious Injury • A County employee who is hospitalized due to a workplace injury for a period of more than 24 hours (for anything other than observation). • A County employee who suffers permanent disfigurement or amputation of any part of his/her body. • A County employee who is killed in the performance of his/her duties.

  9. Failure to Report Minimum fine for failure to report is $5,000.00 Remember…. 8 hours start counting from the time that the employer has knowledge of the injury! Basic Rule: Call 911 + Call HCA Safety Office.

  10. Cal/OSHA Inspections Cal/OSHA inspections can happen at anytime and result from the following: • A serious injury • A complaint • Random follow-up • Being in a targeted industry

Assisting HCA Safety withCal/OSHA Inspections Upon Onsite Arrival of Cal/OSHA Inspectors • Front office staff should be aware and abide by County Policy (Doc 1002). • Review Inspector’s credentials to determine name and title. • Ask the Inspector to wait in a lobby or public waiting area. • Call HCA Safety immediately 714-834-4359.

  12. Etiquette with Cal/OSHA Inspectors Please… • Do not refuse entry or demand a warrant. • Explain that they are unable to tour the facility until proper representation is available. Depending on the area, a Safety Officer could be at a site within 30 minutes. • Avoid conversation (small talk) with the inspector…Remember anything you say may be used against HCA.
